COLLEGE OF CIVIL INFRASTRUCTURE AND CONTSRUCTION

Students, teachers, industry members, State and Federal Government members of parliament and Moreton Bay Regional Council representatives came together on Friday 21 August 2009 to officially open and celebrate the completion of the College of Civil Infrastructure and Construction.

Education and Training Minister Geoff Wilson MP was joined in opening the college by industry partner Keith McIlwain, McIlwain Civil and the Federal member for Longman Jon Sullivan.

The College has been built so it simulates a real civil construction site - the only difference is that it is in one location at Caboolture State High School. The facility represents a new model for training and skills development for students in the Sunshine Coast and North Brisbane regions.

Students have the opportunity to undertake training in a safe environment which simulates a real work site. Students will have access to a range of industry standard equipment, giving them the best possible chance of gaining meaningful employment in the Civil Construction industry.

Students in Year 11 and 12 have started training in courses such as Certificate 1 in Resource Infrastructure and Operations at the college.

Other courses that will be offered include short courses such as working in confined spaces, scaffolding and concreting.

Employers will also be able to use the college to up skill their employees in thearea of civil construction.
